What types of devices do you accept?
We currently accept Apple products only — iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks.
Can I donate a device that doesn't turn on or is damaged?
Yes — we accept Apple devices in any condition, working or not.
Can I donate other electronics or accessories too?
At this time, we only accept iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks.
Do I need to include the charger or accessories?
It’s optional — but including the charger or accessories can increase the value of your tax receipt.
What do I need to do before shipping my device?
The one important step is to disconnect your iCloud account. Click here to follow a simple step-by-step guide to help.
Do I need to erase my data before donating?
No — but you’re encouraged to. We securely wipe all devices upon arrival. If you’d like to do it yourself, follow this link for an easy step-by-step guide. But don’t worry — if it’s a headache, just send it in and our tech pros will handle it.
Do you provide a certificate of data destruction?
Yes — once your device is securely wiped, you’ll receive a data destruction certificate and confirmation.
Is donating free?
Yes — donating is always free.
Who pays for the shipping?
We do! You’ll receive a free prepaid shipping label.
How do I donate my device?
Fill out our online form with your device info. You’ll get an instant estimated value and a free shipping label. After we receive and evaluate your device, we’ll securely wipe it and send your tax receipt by email.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes — you’ll receive a tax-deductible receipt for your records.
When will I get my tax receipt

What do you do with the funds raised?
Computers for Kids is dedicated to supporting the physical, mental, educational, and social well-being of youth across America. To maximize our impact, we partner with local charities throughout the U.S. and help fund initiatives that promote emotional growth, leadership skills, digital inclusion, and safe, supportive environments for young people.
How do you determine the value of my device?
We use fair market value to provide the maximum allowable tax receipt amount by law.
What happens to my device after I donate it?
Your device will either be repurposed for underprivileged youth or resold, with the proceeds helping us develop programs and support youth initiatives.
What’s the process of donating my device?
Here’s the step-by-step:
- Data Received – Your donation information is logged.
- Label Created – We send you a shipping label.
- Item Shipped – You send your device to us.
- Item Received – We confirm it has arrived.
- Item Wiped – All personal data is securely erased.
- Item Evaluated – We assess its condition and value.
- Tax Receipt Issued – You receive your official receipt.
- New Opportunities Created – We turn your old device into new opportunities for kids.
Will I get confirmation when you receive my device?
Yes — we’ll keep you updated at each step, from shipping to tax receipt.
What if my device can't be reused?
We’ll destroy the hard drive and responsibly recycle any salvageable parts.
